Sarah Calvey

Sarah is originally from Achill and is a graduate of Mary Immaculate College, Limerick and has completed Post-Graduate studies in St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra. She has taught in a variety of diverse setting which include Australia, Africa and South America. Sarah has many interests and is an advocate of life-long learning. She is enthusiastic about encouraging children to discover their abilities and interests in an inclusive environment.

Sarah is an accomplished musician and plays several traditional Irish musical instruments including the concertina, accordion and tin whistle. She has taught at Scoil Acla Summer School in Achill for the past fifteen years. She is looking forward to encouraging the pupils of Castlebar ETNS to appreciate all types of music either through listening and responding or playing instruments themselves. Sarah is a gaeilgeoir and has a keen interest in the Irish dialects of Co. Mayo and in their preservation.

​Sarah had the privilege of working at Castaheany Educate Together N.S. in Dublin for the past ten years. This was a start-up school and Sarah worked as a class teacher, learning support/resource teacher and as a member of the senior management team during her time there. Sarah is looking forward to building a school community in Castlebar and in using her experience from Castaheany ETNS.
